the last son of lincoln

Giant in the Shadows

The only son of Abraham Lincoln to survive to adulthood, Robert Todd Lincoln was one of the most enigmatic figures in American history during the early twentieth century. He served as Secretary of War to two presidents and could have been elected president himself, but for reasons known to few, he chose to instead live a quiet life with his wife Mary at their manchester mansion, HildenE.

Within the mansion's private observatory, Robert closely monitored the REAPPEARANCE of Halley's Comet in 1910. Although the panic gripping the nation over the comet turned out to be in vain, it was just the beginning of Robert Todd Lincoln's many troubles that year.

Eyewitness to tragedy

Robert Todd Lincoln attended his father's deathbed following his assassination by John Wilkes Booth in 1865. he also witnessed President Garfield's assassination in 1881 and attended the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo where President McKinley was murdered in 1901.

A Man of Science

a self-made millionaire and president of the pullman palace car company, Robert Todd Lincoln was a man of significant scientific prowess: a trait he INHERITED from his father.
